Temperament Testing
5/15/18

Using [A] for active response,
[N] for neutral and
[P] for passive based on:

1. Observation. Watching how she plays with other puppies, does she jump right
into group activities [A], hanging in the midst of the activity [N], or submitting
when approached [P].
Mr. Blue: A
Mr. Red: A
Ms. Yellow:  N

2. Play. When you first take a puppy aside to play with, is he hyper [A], easy going
[N] or does he just want to be petted [P].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

3. Cradle. When cradling a puppy in your arms, does he relax [P], wiggle a bit and
then relax [N] or kick like crazy [A].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

4. Call back. Using a treat or squeak toy and calling to the puppy while backing
away, does he race after you while jumping or nipping at your ankles [A], follow
happily [N] or hesitate and need coaxing [P].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

5. Tuck and pat. When kneeling/sitting on the floor, settle the puppy between your
legs. Pet him in long gentle strokes as you praise him softly. Does he wriggle free
as he nips [A], wriggle and then relax [N] or simply melt in your embrace [P].
Mr. Blue: P
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  P

6. Bend over. Stand up, stretch and relax, Now go to your puppy and lean over to
pet him. Your doing this may seem overwhelming to the pup because you're so
large and he's so small. Does he jump up at your face [A], cower in confusion [P]
or just relax and let it happen [N].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

7. Nose kiss. Cradle your puppy's face in your hands and kiss him on the nose.
Does he bite you back [A], accept the smooch calmly or return the interaction
with a soft bite or kiss [N] or pull back in confusion [P].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

8. Toe squeeze. In this exercise, you're testing your puppy's reaction and sensitivity
to discomfort. While petting the puppy, gently squeeze the skin between his toes.
Does he attack your hand. If so, he's definitely an A type personality with high
sensitivity. A neutral puppy may lick or mouth gently, whereas a passive puppy
will cringe fearfully.
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

9. Startle sound. Take a bunch of keys and when your prospective puppy least
expects it, rattle them above his head and gauge his reaction. Does he attack the
keys [A]. Does he give it a nonchalant glance [N]. A fear reaction is noted by
cowering or withdrawal [P].
Mr. Blue: A
Mr. Red: A
Ms. Yellow:  N

10. Crash test. Stand and wait until your puppy is no longer interested in you.
Suddenly fall to the ground as if you've tripped and exclaim "Ouch" Does the
puppy race over and pounce [A], come to sniff or lick your face [N] or cower and
run in fear [P].
Mr. Blue: A
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow:  N

11. Uplift. Lift the puppy 4 inches off the floor by cradling his midsection. Hold him
there for at least seconds. Does he wriggle and bite furiously [A]? Does he relax
and look around [N]. Does he look fearful and constrict his body posture [P].
Mr. Blue: N
Mr. Red: N
Ms. Yellow: N

All A's: This dominant puppy is bright and interactive. Raising him will take
concentration, consistency and time. His favorite expression is "What's Next!"

All N's: Easy going and contained, this puppy will be pleasant and self-assured, though
perhaps not terribly motivated to follow your agenda when it conflicts with his own. His
favorite expression is "Is it absolutely necessary?"

All P's: This puppy has a weak self-esteem and needs your reassurance to feel safe.
Without proper lessons and socialization, he'll be shy. His favorite expression: "It's been
3 minutes, do you still love me?"

Mix of A and N's: This active puppy will want to be in the middle of everything but will
show slightly more impulse control when stimulated. His favorite expression is: "Let's do
it again"

Mix of N and P's: This self-assured puppy will be easygoing and gentle yet with a
stronger sense of self than a completely passive puppy. Because he's more composed,
he'll be an ideal puppy for a calm house with or without older children. Favorite
expression: "Another back scratching please!"

05.11.18 -

The Tremendous Trio are doing fabulous! Remember that puppy picks have been extended from 5/12 to 5/16.

Ms. Yellow: Yellow collar girl knows one thing she wants- CUDDLES! Check her out in this weeks most recent photos, she is always in a lap or "scheming" trying to figure out how to get in a lap. This little gal is a thinker, she was the fastest pup around the barrier challenge and is the first one to figure out how get past most obstacles.  I expect she will train rapidly.

Mr. Blue: Blue collar boy a mess! He is too funny, tail always wagging no matter the situation.  He was the last pup to make it around the barrier challenge, but he doesn't care. All he wants is playtime with the other puppies!

Mr. Red: Red collar boy's food drive has calmed down now that he has regular access to kibble. He is still a stocky little fellow that is heavier than his siblings.  He is confident and loving, and is always up for cuddles and kisses.

Remember! Check the litter gallery (link button above) for picture updates every Monday and Friday!

05.04.18 -

The Tremendous Trio has come to life! These pups went from roly poly milk drunks to active, barking, playing puppies! The photos of this litter have been updated, you do NOT want to miss them! Wow, so cute. These babies have been introduced to the toddler play pen and they have even found some new friends... since this litter was so small, they are co-housing with Stella's litter of 5! So we have all 8 pups in the toddler pen. They absolutely love the extra play mates and they are all learning so much from one another. They have done an amazing job with the litter training and as soon as we feel they have mastered the litter pan with the addition of the wire top, we will be expanding their pen. More play space! Puppies have been introduced to solid food and are doing very well. All pups are in the same size range, though Red is heavier.

Ms. Yellow: Yellow collar girl is still slightly more independent and reserved than her brothers, but only marginally. She really loves to rough house and is a total tom boy right now. She makes good eye contact and seems to speak through her eyes. She is so sweet, and will gently lick your hand while you stroke her chin and chest.

Mr. Blue: Blue collar boy a HAM. He absolutely wants to be with people, and his tail never stops wagging. Take a look at our more recent puppy photos, he seriously didn't want to cooperate because he wants to GO! He is confident and loving.

Mr. Red: Red collar boy has gone from chunky monkey to SUPER chunky monkey. Sometimes I think he is wider than he is tall! He absolutely loves food and I am certain he will be a food motivated pup! He is stockier than his siblings, with more of a golden retriever build. He is confident and loving.

Remember! Check the litter gallery (link button above) for picture updates every Monday and Friday!

04.27.18 -

The Tremendous Trio are doing so well, growing, eating, sleeping and pooping! They have begun the really walk around their whelping box so a litter pan has been introduced. Mom is spending less time with them as they become more mobile. This week they will be moved out into the older doggy area into the toddler playpen!

Ms. Yellow: Yellow collar girl is slightly more independent and reserved than her brothers. She is smaller than her siblings, but only by a teeny bit. She loves kisses and cuddles.

Mr. Blue: Blue collar boy is super loving, he loves to be held upside down and he is a major cuddle bug. He was the first one to make it out of the whelping box!

Mr. Red: Red collar boy is the chunky monkey! He absolutely loves to eat and perks right up when mommy enters the room and he will suck on our fingers.

Remember! Check the litter gallery (link button above) for picture updates every Monday and Friday!

04.20.18 - Eye Opener

Miss Brandy's Tremendous Trio litter is doing well! All pups are fat little butter balls and growing fast! Mommy Brandy is doing quite well, she is beginning to leave the puppies for longer periods of time, which is quite normal! Everyone is beginning to open their eyes, and they are beginning to explore the visual world. Just in the last 2 days their ears have unsealed and they are reacting to sound. Hold on tight, things start to speed up from here! It is going to be a wild ride from now until May 26th!

04.06.18 - A late introduction...

This litter had a difficult start! Brandy originally gave birth to 8 puppies on 03.31.18, unfortunately, 5 were incredibly small and underdeveloped. Despite several sleepless nights and many hours of supplemental care, the 5 teeny ones didn't survive. Lucky for us, the 3 remaining pups had normal weights at birth and have thrived from day 1! We proudly introduce our Tremendous Trio...

Ms. Yellow: Yellow collar girl arrived like a super pu; feet forward and head first! She was born at 1:22 PM. She is the smallest in the bunch, at 289 grams!  Miss Yellow has an red wavy coat.

Mr. Blue: Blue collar boy entered this world at 2:54 PM and weighs in at 353 grams. He arrived like a super pup: feet forward and head first! Mr. Blue has a gorgeous red, wavy coat.

Mr. Red: Red collar boy has a wavy red coat. He was born super pup style, feet forward and head first, at 3:37 PM.
