5th Pupdate:
Thanks for your patience (once again) with the slow Pupdate. Layla's beauties are transitioning from being little toddlers to "real" puppies! They are really starting to play, and have begun to wean onto puppy mush. I am eyeballing Pink and Yellow for the Red Spring Farm pick.
Ms. Purple: 2.7lb: This big gal has gone from being a quiet cuddler to being an independent pup who wants to go, go, go. She is a little sensitive, and prefers gentle interactions with adults than rowdy play.
Ms. Yellow: 2.0lb: This little girl is very interested and interactive with people. She really likes to be held and cuddled and will swat at you with her paws when she wants attention!
Ms. Orange: 3.1lb: This bigger girl is cute as can be and has a happy, silly demeanor. She likes to carry toys around in her mouth! She is active and intelligent and will perk her ears at you and turn her head from side to side when you chat with her.
Ms. Pink: 2.1lb: Pink has come out of her shell this week, she had a big personality and her face is very expressive! She is likes playtime with people and other pups alike. She is a smart pup whose wheels turn when she is exploring something new.
Mr. Blue: 3.1lb: This curly, easy going guy is go with the flow and has a very pleasant, middle of the road, happy temperament. He is a classic little boy- not complicated at all! Just a mellow, happy guy.
Mr. Green: 1.6lb: This guy is hilarious, he absolutely has no idea how small he is and walks around like he owns the place! He likes to attack little stuffed animals (playfully) and he thrives with lots of attention!
Mr. Red: 2.9lb: Okay guys- don't just this pup by his perpetually grumpy/serious face HA! He will outgrow it, and he is the sweetest little "dood." He was a big hit today with our puppy socializing visitors and fell asleep being held like a baby with his belly being stroked. He is easy going and likes attention.

Vet Exam Information:
Pups go to the vet this week (22nd). We will post at the bottom of this section once they get their exams. Our vet is EXTREMELY thorough, which we love. He makes a point to note everything about each pup after a thorough examination. We describe puppy vet exams in three different ways... perfect, normal, or abnormal.
A perfect exam is what it sounds like, it means that the vet didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, and so no notes are made on that pup's record sheet. It is unusual for every pup in a litter to get a perfect vet exam.
A normal exam is when a pup has something worth noting, but it is not expected to impact the health of the pup, or quality as a pet. It is not unusual for puppies to have imperfect exams at this age. They are growing at a rapid pace, and this sometimes results in awkward phases. In fact, sometimes we have more pups in a litter with "normal" exams than "perfect" exams! Normal exam findings generally correct themselves with age, or (in the case of an umbilical hernia) may need a very simple correction at the time of spay/neuter. Examples of imperfect, but normal puppy exams include a small under or overbite, a small umbilical hernia, "puppy laxity" of the patellas, or a low grade heart murmur (which is expected to go away as the pup grows). We will ALWAYS notify you of any such things at the first vet visit, and you are NOT required to take a pup that you do not feel comfortable with due to any exam finding, even if it is a somewhat normal finding for a growing pup. We will only allow pups to go home if we feel comfortable that the issue is benign or will go away with age.
Abnormal exams are when pups have an exam that concerns us for their long term health. An example of this would be severe patellar luxation (extremely loose knee joints- very different than typical puppy laxity), a loud heart murmur (ex, 4 out of 6), cataracts, etc. In these situations, where the severity of the issue in question may impact their long term health, we "pull" the puppy from the reservation list and they are no longer available until we can either wait for the next exam of have the pup checked by a specialist, depending on the issue. We have been very blessed in that every single pup we have ever had to pull from a list due to an abnormal exam has ended up being just fine and the condition went away with age! Still- we don't let pups go to new homes until we are comfortable that they can live normal, happy lives.

All A's: This dominant puppy is extremely bright and interactive. Raising him will take concentration, consistency and time and an experienced owner is recommended. They can be extremely rewarding pets for someone who wants to have a highly trained companion or competition dog of some sort (Agility, dock diving, etc).
All N's: Easy going and contained, "All N" puppies will be pleasant and an ideal pet for most families. These middle-of-the-road pups are confident enough that they won't live for their owner's approval and guidance like a "P" puppy would (N pups can be stubborn at times) but they won't be as defiant as an "A" puppy can be.
All P's: This puppy has a weak self-esteem and needs your reassurance to feel safe. Without proper lessons and socialization, he'll be shy. With proper socializing, "P" pups can "built up" to make excellent family dogs and tend to be very attached to their owners.
Mix of A and N's: This active puppy will want to be in the middle of everything but will show more impulse control when stimulated than an all "A" puppy. "A/N" puppies are great for loud/active families that want a pup with lots of personality and confidence, but that are not nearly as intense as "all A" puppies.
Mix of N and P's: This self-assured puppy will be easygoing and gentle yet with a stronger sense of self than a completely passive puppy. Because he's more composed, he'll be an ideal puppy for a calm household.

Thanks for your patience with me this week with the slow Pupdates. We still may not get a video out for you until Sunday (but hope to make it a special one). Layla's lovelies are doing well and growing up so quickly. This week we are excited to expand their pen and add a potty grid, and likely introduce this group to their 1st meal. Layla is such a natural, lovely mother.
Ms. Purple: 2.32lb: this big girl is a happy little cuddler that is a fan of nap time.
Ms. Yellow: 1.24lb: Is a sweet little gal that is inquisitive, she likes to explore new things.
Ms. Orange: 2.20lb: Is a sweet girl with a middle of the road temperament, likes to play with siblings.
Ms. Pink: 1.80lb: Is a sweet, sensitive girl who prefers gentle kisses and calm cuddles to active play.
Mr. Blue: 2.60lb: What a little teddy bear! This hunky fella is a gentle giant that will fall asleep upside down in your lap.
Mr. Green: 1.36lb: Is a HAM! He is active, loves attention, and thinks everyone is his friend (human and canine).
Mr. Red: 2.44lb: Is an easy going, happy go lucky guy that is pretty much happy to hang out doing whatever you are doing.

This is such a sweet little litter! We are seeing quite a range in weights, and I think we will have pups on both the high and low end of the estimated weight spectrum. Layla is a fabulous mom (we are so lucky, every single mom here is doing a great job). Her pups are chunky and thriving. Mr. Green is so easy to "spot" and I am pretty sure he has a fan club rooting for him to continue growing and doing well. Despite his small size, he is now keeping right up with the others.

Happy Birthday!
Layla had 7 gorgeous pups on the evening of 1/18. 4 girls and 3 boys. One of the boys is parti (spotted) in color, while everyone else is red to apricot. Layla had a very fast, easy delivery. For those that know Layla, she is all legs and naturally very lean... it is hard to believe that she is the mom of 7!
*Layla's parti boy (Mr. Green) is very small and struggling to stay next to his mom (his siblings are so much larger and they push him out of the way). It is very important that he stays next to his mother, because her body is what keeps him warm. He will be back and forth between our incubator and spending time with his mommy until he starts gaining reliably, and can keep up with his siblings. He has a great nursing instinct, which is a good sign! But we will not be taking names for the last reservation on Layla's list until we know that he is okay.
