We use a team of several different vets to accomplish our breeding goals, however, our primary veterinarian is Dr. Porter at Botetourt Veterinary Hospital in Troutville, VA. We have tried many veterinarians throughout the years, and Botetourt has been blessed with one of the BEST! Not only does Dr. Porter handle the day-in/day-out care for all of our dogs and puppies, but he and the fabulous vet techs at Botetourt go out of their way to make sure your pups first visit to the vet is a positive one.

Dr. Porter performs a full exam on each of our parent dogs before they move on to Virginia Tech for finalized health testing. His exam includes a full body checkup, a patella exam and heart auscultation exam up to the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) standards, and hips and elbows radiographs, which he sends to the OFA for preliminary clearances. If blood testing is required for genetic testing panel we use (typically a cheek swap is sufficient) Dr. Porter does this as well.

We are lucky to be less than an hour from Virginia Tech, which gives us easy access to their fantastic team of veterinary cardiologists and ophthalmologists at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. They are able to clear our dogs of ocular and cardiac disorders via OFA standards. They also offer a wide range Reproductive Services to insure that our breeding dogs are getting the best care possible. We may only see these wonderful folks a couple of times each year, but they are very important to our program. We rely on variety of OFA Approved genetic testing facilities for disease, trait, coat, and color screening of our parent dogs. Which testing facility we opt to use depends entirely on what the dog needs to be tested for, the turnaround time, and what panel was used for their parents.
