Our Goal
Our goal is to provide you with a healthy, well adjusted puppy that has been raised in our home. We strive to have down-to-earth, open communication with our puppy buyers, and we encourage you to ask lots of questions. When you get a puppy from us, we are a resource to you for the lifetime of your puppy!
Responsible Care of Breeding Dogs
We take pride in the fact that we have very high standards for the care and health of our adult breeding dogs. Our adults are, first and foremost, family pets. They live with us or a guardian family that values them as a companion. We are not a kennel, and that is why we cannot produce large numbers of litters a year! We do not breed excessively. Our females have just 3-4 litters, and then we spay our girls so that they can live out their life as a family dog. All dogs are current on vaccines and receive monthly heart worm prevention and on parasite management programs. All adult dogs in our home are fed a premium kibble that is supplemented with healthy, fresh human food right out of our kitchen.
Before breeding, all of our adult dogs are all tested for breed specific abnormalities through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. Radiographs and veterinary exams prove normal hip, elbow, patella, and cardiac function through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animal. Each calendar year, every breeding dog has an OFA/CAER eye exam performed by a veterinary ophthalmologist. We perform genetic/OFA testing on each adult breeding dog to insure the health of our puppies. For more information regarding what we test for, visit our Health Testing page. Because of our strict health protocols, we happily offer a 2 year health warranty on the above congenital conditions and a lifetime guarantee against the genetic conditions that we test for.

Our Health Guarantee
All Red Spring Farm breeding Dogs are tested for Hip, Elbow, Eye, Cardiac, and Patella conditions. They also receive genetic screening for the below breed-specific genetic diseases (if they are not cleared by parentage). We are happy to provide families with hard copies of these tests upon request AFTER your pup is spayed/neutered (between 6-12 months of age). Therefore, Red Spring Farm guarantees against the congenital conditions listed below that greatly diminish the quality of the dog’s life or results in the dog’s death until the dog reaches 2 years of age (3 Years of age for those who feed our recommended diet). Unfortunately, because these conditions can also be caused by the dog’s lifestyle, the warranty is null and void if the condition is attributed to injury, neglect, obesity, rapid growth due to poor nutrition and/or strenuous, repetitive exercise (such as agility training or running miles a day) that takes place before 18 months of age. We guarantee genetic conditions for the lifetime of the dog.
In the unfortunate event that a dog is confirmed affected by one of the following congenital or genetic conditions, the Buyer can elect to either receive a replacement puppy (only in the event of the death of the original dog) or receive reimbursement of vet bills for treatment of the condition up to 100% the purchase price of the dog (this does not include the Breeder’s Fee). Reimbursement is for treatment only, no reimbursement for tests to diagnose the condition will be given. If the dog is covered by a pet insurance company, such as Trupanion or Embrace, then reimbursement only covers the deductible. All reimbursements will be submitted and treatment must be provided within 1 year of the diagnosis. Congenital conditions must be confirmed by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (for HD, ED, and Luxating Patellas), or a Board Certified Canine Cardiologist (for Cardiac Disorders). All genetic conditions must be confirmed by an OFFA approved lab.
Red Spring Farm’s Guarantee does not include viral illnesses, infections, improper bites, benign heart murmurs, hernias, or parasites. It also does not cover illness due to the ingestion of foreign objects, food, chemicals, or physical injury. This warranty is included in our contract (we are happy to provide a copy of our contract upon request).

How We Raise Our Puppies
Pups are born and raised in my home, and when pups are "on the ground" this is my full time job. The mother dog gives birth in my office (where I have a loft bed set up). I am always present at the birth, and puppies are color coded so that we can track their weights and personalities which helps us best match puppies to their new home. As they grow, the whelping box is expanded, which is connected to our living room and has a viewing window from our kitchen. We expand the whelping box as pups get older, and intermingle with our adult dogs to learn manners and socialization skills.
We raise our pups using a variety of methods from proven socialization protocols. We believe that the early enrichment and socialization exercises we perform at Red Spring Farm helps your pup learn communication skills that improves their trainability and confidence! We take pictures often and post new photos on our website weekly. We try to take high quality photos of each pup during each photo session. Our pups grow up on Life's Abundance All Life Stages kibble, and this is our recommended diet.
Our pups are de-wormed at 2, 4, 6 and 7 weeks. Each puppy gets a veterinarian exam and vet-administered vaccines around 6 weeks of age to verify that they are healthy. We microchip AND register that chip for the lifetime of your dog as part of our puppy package.
Our pups will go home with a contract, our 2 year congenital health guarantee, a lifetime genetic health guarantee, 30 Days of FREE pet insurance through Trupanion, vaccine records, a microchip information sheet (we pay for lifetime registration of our microchip), a blanket that smells like home, a toy that smells like home, and samples of Life's Abundance treats and Life's Abundance Shampoo. Remember, we offer a Training Refund of $100 for pups who accomplish Canine Good Citizen or Therapy Dog International training, just send us a photo of the dog and handler holding the certificate.
Getting Started
Filling out an application helps us help us get to know you and determine exactly what you are looking for. After you submit an application, you will receive an email response within 24 hours. If you would prefer a phone response, please specify this in the application with the best time for us to reach you. If it seems like a good fit for both parties, how we proceed depends on whether or not the litter you are interested in has been born yet...
If you are interested in an Available Litter that is already born: Be sure that you are comfortable taking any pup in the litter that will be available by the time your potential reservation spot is reached on selection day. If so, then we will accept a $200 nonrefundable deposit to reserve that spot.
If you are interested in an Upcoming Litter that is not yet born: Once posted on the Upcoming Litter's page, we are willing to take deposits towards that litter. You may place a $200 nonrefundable deposit to reserve a spot on her reservation list. If a dog does not get pregnant or has a small litter, you can transfer your deposit to an available or upcoming litter, or put it towards a future litter. Once the mother of your chosen litter has given birth, we will post the color, gender, and estimated coat types of the puppies. If there is a chance you may not get the color, coat, or gender that you want from that litter (remember, you may not have first pick) then you must contact us within 3 days and ask to transfer your deposit to an available or upcoming litter, or put it towards a future litter. After 3 days you are committing to that litter, and your deposit is no longer transferable. This means that, if you decide not to purchase a pup from that litter, your deposit will go toward the time we spent communicating with you and will spend re-reserving that spot.
If you are hoping for a puppy further in the future than what we have on our litter list, we will happily pre-approve your application, but we do not accept deposits until a potential litter is posted on the Upcoming Litter's page. We will try to remind you, but ultimately it is your responsibility to keep an eye on our upcoming litters list and contact us when a litter you like is posted.
We only accept a mailed check for the final payment, no bank transfers or online transactions (no venmo, zelle, paypal, etc). The remaining purchase price of your puppy (minus deposit) must be received by Red Spring Farm via check BY puppy selection day (when the pup is 5 weeks old).

Visitation Policy/Puppy Cams
We understand that you want to know where you puppy comes from and the environment it is raised in. We would love to have a transparent, open door policy where you could visit any time you would like. Unfortunately, due to recent outbreaks of parvo and canine respiratory illnesses, this is simply not safe for the puppies in our care. We now limit the number of visitors in our home, only allowing deposit holders to come on take home day only. In lieu of in-person visits, we hope to provide you with the next best thing.... we provide access to a live-stream camera right here on the website from 8AM-10PM on all of our litters, though expect periodic down time as we clean up or socialize the litter. You get to see the good and bad with us (it can be a messy job), and you will get to know each puppy in-depth so you can select the best option for your family. We think this beats a one hour visit!

How Does Puppy Selection Work?
Puppy selections are done in the order of deposit. You will have the pupdates, photos, and videos provided on that litter's page to help you with your decision, and of course I am available to discuss any additional questions at any time. Selections take place the day of the 5-week pupdate (which is 3 weeks before the pup joins your family). This is around the time their personalities start emerging. To select your pup, each family must make a list, from their first pick to last pick in the litter, and email it to me no later than 6PM on selection day.
Please don't wait until the last minute to create your selection list- I am happy to make myself available all week leading up to selection day to answer questions via email, or set up a phone appointment to discuss your options so that you can send me your list confidently.

I am only interested in a couple of the puppies, but there are already several people on the list. Can I transfer after puppy selection day if the puppy I want is not available?
We often have people ask to place a deposit on an available litter, and then transfer or lose it if the gender or color they want isn't available by their time on the reservation spot of reached on selection day. Unfortunately this is very problematic for the puppy that gets passed over. If you had not taken up a spot on the list, that pup may have otherwise had a home waiting. Therefore, when you commit to a reservation list, make 100% sure that that you are comfortable taking home any puppy that may be available to you on take home day. For example, if there are 7 puppies in a litter and your deposit would be for the 5th reservation- make sure you are comfortable selecting from any combination of 3 puppies from that litter. If you cannot, then your best option is to wait until selection day and see who is available after- and keep your fingers crossed that it is one of your favorites!
I really like a specific color or coat type. Will the puppy I select be the same color and coat as an adult as it does when I pick it up as a puppy?
We often have people request a specific color (deep, mahogany red is a popular color request). Poodle mixes pretty much ALWAYS lighten with age, which is called fading. Some fade a little, others fade a lot. It is most apparent on mahogany red, jet black, and deep chocolate colored doodles, but expect any color to lighten in color somewhat as the puppy gets older. Most dogs will start to fade between 6 months and 18 months of age, either by overall lightening of the color of the hair or by white hairs mixing in, starting on the back and spreading all over, giving your pup a "frosted" look. Most poodle mixes reach their adult color by 2-3 years of age.
Puppies have the most amazing coat! It is soft, and doesn't mat (tangle) easily. Unfortunately, this coat is not here to stay. Just like how humans have infant hair as an babies, doodles have different hair as puppies. As doodles age, they experience multiple coat changes between 8 weeks and 18 months of age. The most apparent will occur when they are between 6-14 months of age. At this time, their coat will transform from a very soft, easy to groom coat to a more coarse adult coat that mats much more easily. During the transition, when the doodle has a combination of puppy and adult coat, the coat can be very difficult to maintain. Daily brushing (all the way to the skin) and more regular grooming visits may be required, or you can opt to have your dog receive a short haircut to keep them comfortable and reduce grooming needs. Once their coat fully transitions, it will be less difficult to maintain (though not as easy a a baby coat)! Curly coated dogs may not look very curly as puppies, but as they get older and their coat will curl more. Even straight or wavy coated puppies will develop more volume/wave as their coat lengthens and their adult coat comes in.

Take Home Day!
Take Home Day is an exciting time for everyone! It is also a VERY busy day for us at Red Spring Farm. After puppies are born, we will schedule their take home day, which is the closest Saturday to their 8 week "birthday". Typically, this is done at 11AM, and as a group (so fun to meet everyone)!
For those who are coming to our home, PLEASE do not be early, and please do not be late! If you arrive early, you are welcome to wait in our driveway for your appointment time. If you are late, we may not be able to go over our puppy packet while you are here. If you are very late, you may have to reschedule your puppy pick up for a later date. Training/Boarding
We are not professional trainers and we do not offer boarding. If you want your pup to start training ASAP, you may consider finding a trainer in your area.
Travel Information
We are super busy raising puppies here at Red Spring Farm, and cannot leave our dogs here to delivery your puppy! Families must drive to our home, which is located in Fincastle, VA (North Roanoke).
DRIVING HOME: If you are within a 4 hour drive of our home, we encourage you to drive to pick up your puppy. If your drive is between 4 and 6 hours, we encourage you to make sure to bring a helping hand! For the drive home, make sure that you have a Life's Abundance Porky Puff or Bully Stick to keep your pup occupied, a baggie of Life's Abundance Puppy Kibble (just in case), a safe place in the car designated for the pup to travel, a clean towel or bed for the puppy to lay down on, cleaning supplies (for the puppies that get a little car sick), a harness and leash for potty breaks, and travel-safe containers for water. If you have an exceptionally long drive (6+ hours), we encourage you to look into flights to see if carry-on shipping is an option for you.
FLYING HOME: If you have an 8+ hour one-way drive, you may consider flying home with your puppy instead. Our nearest airport is Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, and there are plenty of rental car options at the airport so that you can drive to us to pickup your new addition. Carry-on shipping allows the puppy to stay with you and fly safely under the seat in front of you during the flight home. You are their caregiver the entire trip, and they are never left alone. We can advise you on how to bring your puppy home as carry-on when flying, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure that you are following the guidelines of the airline you choose, as age/size/vet documentation requirements vary with each airline. If you need more documentation that what we provide in our typical puppy packet, you must let us know in advance so that we can arrange an appointment with our vet. Remember, puppies cannot receive a rabies vaccine until they are 12 weeks of age (at a minimum).
SHIPPING: We refuse to ship our puppies via cargo, which is when the puppy is crated and alone for the duration of the flight, often without food or water. *If you are flying, your pick up date will be different than the normal pick-up day, as we will be meeting you at the airport! MAKE SURE to discuss your travel plans with us PRIOR to booking to make sure that we can accommodate you.
FLYING HOME: If you have an 8+ hour one-way drive, you may consider flying home with your puppy instead. Our nearest airport is Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, and there are plenty of rental car options at the airport so that you can drive to us to pickup your new addition. Carry-on shipping allows the puppy to stay with you and fly safely under the seat in front of you during the flight home. You are their caregiver the entire trip, and they are never left alone. We can advise you on how to bring your puppy home as carry-on when flying, however, it is ultimately your responsibility to make sure that you are following the guidelines of the airline you choose, as age/size/vet documentation requirements vary with each airline. If you need more documentation that what we provide in our typical puppy packet, you must let us know in advance so that we can arrange an appointment with our vet. Remember, puppies cannot receive a rabies vaccine until they are 12 weeks of age (at a minimum).
SHIPPING: We refuse to ship our puppies via cargo, which is when the puppy is crated and alone for the duration of the flight, often without food or water. This is stressful for the puppy and can lead to dehydration... not to mention that it is not a good way to introduce the puppy to your family and a crate!
