5/23 (Sat)- 7th Pupdate:

Those on the list know the full details, but Mr. Orange became very ill this week. The cause is still unknown, but it was severe enough to require a 2 night stay at the Veterinary ER. We opted to humanely euthanize him to end his suffering as he declined past the point of any expected recovery. We are having a necropsy performed to identify the cause of his decline, but prior to euthanizing he had significant testing to rule out viruses, parasites, and other issues (organ ultrasounds, etc) that could impact his litter-mates, and his team of vets do not suspect it is anything that could impact his siblings. He likely had some sort of underlying infection. His medical records will be scanned in on Tuesday and we will provide them on request in puppy packets to those who wish to discuss this with their vet.

On a lighter note, everyone else is gaining and thriving. They love the outdoors and will spend as much time outside on our patio as the weather will allow. At night, they are beginning crate training and doing SO well. They are currently being crated in groups of 3-4 and being let out 1x in the middle of the night. They have been working on sitting for attention and they are doing SO well (pics provided in the gallery).

5/16- 6th Pupdate:

Layla and Daisy's sweethearts are thriving, well on their way towards being fully weaned, and they got to go on their first outdoor excursion this week. They LOVED it! Weather permitting this weekend, I may try to get a puppy camera run outside to our patio area so you can watch them run around. We have scheduled vet appointments for everyone- due to unusual COVID-19 hours at our vet, Layla's litter will be seen this week and Daisy's litter will be seen next week (Tuesday the 19th and Tuesday the 26th). Both moms are spending significantly less time with their babies- by next week they will be rejoining their guardian families. People often ask if it is traumatizing or sad for the moms and pups to be separated. At this point, moms really do not enjoy their puppies- those sharp teeth HURT! Most moms happily jump in the car with their guardian families and do not look back! Puppies are fully weaned before mommies leave and they really do not notice. They interact with other adult dogs in our pack throughout their time here, so they have plenty of opportunities to learn those important life lessons and cues from adult dogs even after their mom leaves.

5/08 - 5th Pupdate:

Y'all we had "one of those" Fridays- it took a while to finalize pictures and a couple videos, but they are now posted on the litter gallery, and weights are updated below. Thanks for your patience!
Layla and Daisy's sweethearts are growing so incredibly fast. We introduced them to soft kibble this past week. Layla's have just started to catch on... Daisy's still prefer mommy to kibble, though that will change this week! As their teeth come in, moms will start spending less time with their pups- you may notice a drastic drop in mothering activities this week, and things will start to get messy QUICK. Pups will be rotated into the big pen a couple times a day so that we can clean their small pens and change out litter pans. We will move their camera so you can enjoy! Since only 1 litter is eating kibble with some consistency, we did not introduce the two litters together last week, but it will definitely happen this week! I will make sure to catch it on video for you :)

IMPORTANT REMINDER- Puppy selections MUST be emailed to me by 6PM on 05/09 unless other arrangements have been discussed.  *Edit- the incorrect date was originally posted- it is 05/09!

Layla's Mr. Red: 2lb 5oz: Mr. Red is a very playful, loving pup. His BFF is Ms. Lime- she leads and he follows! He is "little dood" but is a big dog in a little body. Mr. Red has a wavy coat, is estimated to land on the smaller end of the estimated weight range, and rated "primarily neutral/somewhat assertive" on the temperament testing scale below (8 N's, 3 A's).
Layla's Mr. Grey: 3lb 0oz: Mr. Grey has been stealing hearts with his good looks and easy going temperament. He really does have a middle-of-the-road personality and just seems to hang out with us during playtime, rotating between play with siblings and attention from us. He rated "very neutral" on the temperament testing scale below (9 N's, 2 P's).
Layla's Mr. Brown: 2lb 5oz: This boy is all about cuddles and gentle, 1 on 1 playtime. He enjoys his siblings but would much rather be in your lap... he really loves being held and cuddled . Mr. Brown has a wavy coat, is estimated to land on the smallest end of the estimated weight range, and rated "neutral/passive" on the temperament testing scale below. (6 N's, 5 P's).
Layla's Mr. Aqua: 3lb 0oz: Aqua is a goofy boy who loves playtime with his siblings. He is playful and is already showing a tendency to fetch, he loves chasing little balls. He is really "all boy"! After playtime he is more than happy to lay right next to you and wants to be petted.  Aqua has a curly coat, is estimated to land in the middle of the estimated weight range, and rated "very neutral" on the temperament testing scale below (9 N's, 2 P's).
Layla's Ms. Violet: 2lb 7oz: This sweet girl has come out of her shell this week! She really enjoys human interaction and plays with her paws, swatting at us when she wants attention. She is ready to be someone's little princess! She enjoys her siblings, but loves human companionship more. Ms. Violet has a curly coat, is estimated to land on the smallest end of the estimated weight range, and rated "neutral/somewhat passive" on her temperament testing scale below (7 N's, 4 P's).
Layla's Ms. Lime: 2lb 3oz: Y'all this girl is hilarious! She is perfect for an active family that wants a pup who loves, loves, loves everyone she meets. Her tail never stops wagging! She is a little bitty girl but that doesn't slow her down one bit. She is confident, a fast learner, and ready to play! She rated "assertive/neutral" on the temperament testing scale (6 A's, 5 N's).
Layla's Ms. Yellow: 2lb 3oz: Sweet Ms. Yellow is the lovebug of her litter. She reminds me of her mommy, Layla, every day and has the most beautiful expressive face. She is a sweet cuddlebug and will thrive with someone who wants to spoil their pup with lots of praise and attention... she will be your BFF forever! She rated "neutral/passive" on the temperament testing scale below (6 N's, 5 P's).

Daisy's Mr. Burgundy: 2lb 8oz: I cannot get over how similar this boy is to Orange!!! Like little twins, both in their looks and disposition. Both boys are very middle-of the-road pups, a good balance of easy going, playful, and up for cuddles. Mr. Burgundy has a curly coat, is estimated to land in the middle of the estimated weight range, and rated "very neutral" on his temperament testing scale below (10 N's, 1 P).
Daisy's Mr. Orange: 2lb 15oz: I cannot get over how similar this boy is to Burgundy!!! Like little twins, both in their looks and disposition. Both boys are very middle-of the-road pups, a good balance of easy going, playful, and up for cuddles. Mr. Burgundy has a curly coat, is estimated to land small/middle on the estimated weight range, and rated "all neutral" on his temperament testing scale below (11 N's).
Daisy's Mr. Black: 2lb 12oz: Awww, this boy has the classic doodle puppy eyes and a gentle spirit. He prefers calm cuddles to active play- but this will change in the coming weeks as he builds his confidence. Mr. Black has a wavy coat, is estimated to land middle/large on the estimated weight range, and rated "neutral/passive" on the temperament testing scale below (6 N's, 5 P's).
Daisy's Mr. Navy: 3lb 4oz: This HUNK is a handsome, big boy who is just a gentle giant! He is clunky and clumsy because of his big doodle feet, and despite his size he plays gently with his brothers and sisters. He is a pretty chill guy that will hang next to you and enjoys being petted. Mr. Navy has a wavy coat, is estimated to land on the large end of the estimated weight range, and rated "neutral/somewhat passive" on his temperament testing scale below (7 N's, 4 P's).
Daisy's Mr. Gold: 2lb 14oz: This chunky monkey is about as stocky as they come! He has a blocky head and a short, thick body much like that of a retriever. He likes to lay on his back to get belly rubs and is a pretty easy going, middle of the road kind of guy. Mr. Gold has a curly coat, is estimated to land on the large end of the estimated weight range BUT may not be as tall as Navy or Black (I suspect Gold will be short and stocky).  He rated "very neutral" on the temperament testing scale below (9 N's, 2 P's).
Daisy's Mr. Green: 3lb 0oz: I cannot get over this boys precious personality! He is such a clown and has a big, goofy style about him that captures your heart. His mustache makes him even cooler. He is playful, loving, and thrives on attention. Mr. Green has a wavy coat, is estimated to land on the large end of the estimated weight range, and rated "very neutral" on the temperament testing scale below (10 N's, 1 A).
Daisy's Ms. Magenta: 2lb 13oz: This gal is absolutely beautiful! Her markings are striking and balanced, and her structure is thick and blocky. She has a middle of the road personality, and is independent enough that she is happy to explore on her own but only after she gets some attention and cuddles. Ms. Magenta is curly, is estimated to land middle/large on the estimated weight range (she is pretty stocky), and rated "very neutral" on the temperament testing scale below (10 N's, 1 P).
Daisy's Ms. Lavender: 1lb 15oz: Last, but most definitely not least.... Ms. Lavender is the little sweetheart of Daisy's bunch and in many ways, out of the whole litter. She is playful, but really loves humans and wants to hang out with us when we are around. On more than 1 occasion she has crawled into my lap and rested her chin on my knee. Ms. Lavender has a curly coat, is estimated to land on the smaller end of the estimated weight range, and rated "neutral/passive" on the temperament testing scale below (6 N's, 5 P's).

All A's: This dominant puppy is extremely bright and interactive. Raising him will take concentration, consistency and time and an experienced owner is recommended. They can be extremely rewarding pets for someone who wants to have a highly trained companion or competition dog of some sort (Agility, dock diving, etc).

All N's: Easy going and contained, "All N" puppies will be pleasant and an ideal pet for most families. These middle-of-the-road pups are confident enough that they won't live for their owner's approval and guidance like a "P" puppy would (N pups can be stubborn at times) but they won't be as defiant as an "A" puppy can be.

All P's: This puppy has a weak self-esteem and needs your reassurance to feel safe. Without proper lessons and socialization, he'll be shy. With proper socializing, "P" pups can "built up" to make excellent family dogs and tend to be very attached to their owners.

Mix of A and N's: This active puppy will want to be in the middle of everything but will show more impulse control when stimulated than an all "A" puppy. "A/N" puppies are great for loud/active families that want a pup with lots of personality and confidence, but that are not nearly as intense as "all A" puppies.

Mix of N and P's: This self-assured puppy will be easygoing and gentle yet with a stronger sense of self than a completely passive puppy. Because he's more composed, he'll be an ideal puppy for a calm household.

5/01 - 4th Pupdate:

These beautiful boys and girls have moved from the smaller toddler pens all the way out to our big puppy room (videos will be posted on Monday of the whole space- it is kind of cool)! They will stay here until they join your family, though their pens will expand. We are so excited for the coming 4 weeks... and more importantly, puppy selection weekend is coming up! Everyone on this list will be sent an email on MONDAY with information on selection day as well as take home information :) Pups will be introduced to all sorts of stimulus this week and the transformation from "toddlers" to puppies will be AMAZING! We will start feeding softened kibble to begin the weaning process, and later in the week we may introduce the two litters to one another, which will be adorable. We will start to see more dramatic differences between pups that will likely be on the smaller and larger end of the expected weight range.
Layla's Mr. Red: 1lb 13oz: This cutie was all tail wags and kisses during his photo session. He is a little lovebug.
Layla's Mr. Grey: 2lb 5oz: This hunky fella has such soulful eyes. He has the classic golden color and head.
Layla's Mr. Brown: 1lb 13oz: This little boy is easy going, and I suspect he will be small. He likes being held and cuddled.
Layla's Mr. Aqua: 2lb 6oz: What a beautiful boy! He was a little camera shy but that isn't his usual nature- he has a big, goofy personality and loves attention.
Layla's Ms. Violet:  1lb 14oz: This sweet girl is all about gentle kisses and cuddles. She prefers soft hands and soft voices- but is sooo precious and will kiss you back if you kiss her!
Layla's Ms. Lime:  1lb 14oz: This gal is a sassy, spunky little princess! She is fast for her age and motors all over the pen!
Layla's Ms. Yellow: 1lb 10oz: This sweetheart reminds me so much of her mommy, Layla. She has big, expressive eyes and is a total love bug.

Daisy's Mr. Burgundy:  2lb 3oz: This boy is goofy and on the move. He wagged his tail through puppy pictures, such a sweetie pie!
Daisy's Mr. Orange:  1lb 13oz: This little fella looks like he will be on the smaller side. He is a very sweet boy and wants to kiss the camera lens and your nose.
Daisy's Mr. Black: 2lb 3oz: Awww, this boy has the classic doodle puppy eyes and a gentle spirit. He prefers calm cuddles to active play- but this will change in the coming weeks as he builds his confidence.
Daisy's Mr. Navy:  2lb 8oz: If you love chunky pups, this is your "dood"! He is a big boy with lots of love to give as long as he gets a treat too!
Daisy's Mr. Gold:  2lb 4oz: This Golden boy is lovely, such a stocky head and body like a retriever. He is a sweet boy who LOVES his mommy and is probably the fattest puppy of them all!
Daisy's Mr. Green:  2lb 4oz: This chunky boy was the class clown this week-  what an embarrassing puppy photo (but still OH so cute). He may be on the bigger side, but he is such a
Daisy's Ms. Magenta:  2lb 3oz: This girl is a knockout! Really gorgeous and with a lovely middle of the road personality. She likes to explore, but only after a cuddle.
Daisy's Ms. Lavender:  1lb 5oz: Oh my goodness... something about the littlest one is so precious. This girl is a gentle little princess. She gives sweet kisses. She is so little compared to her siblings, you just want to squeeze her- and she doesn't mind!

4/24 - 3rd Pupdate:

Layla and Daisy's chunky monkeys are starting to explore the world! Several of the smaller ones are beginning to "toddle" across their little nursery pen, which indicates that they are ready to start potty training. At this age, that means that we will start be increasing their pen size and adding a sleeping area (a puppy bed). Once they start using their bed, we will also give them a potty space (a grate). The potty space takes up a large portion of the pen, as you want their target to be easy to hit. We will start with Layla's litter, and in a few days begin with Daisy's. All pups are healthy and growing SO fast.

We had added puppy ID collars this week to help you identify who is who as their personalities start to shine!

***
We recommend that you not compare weights between the two litters until they are older (4-5 weeks of age). There is little correlation between weights at this age and adult size.
Layla's Mr. Red: 652 grams, wavy
Layla's Mr. Grey: 817 grams, wavy
Layla's Mr. Brown: 586 grams, wavy
Layla's Mr. Aqua: 798 grams, curly
Layla's Ms. Violet: 653 grams, curly
Layla's Ms. Lime: 644 grams, wavy
Layla's Ms. Yellow: 584 grams, wavy

Daisy's Mr. Burgundy: 707 grams, curly
Daisy's Mr. Orange: 617 grams, curly
Daisy's Mr. Black: 669 grams, wavy
Daisy's Mr. Navy: 782 grams, wavy
Daisy's Mr. Gold:750 grams, curly
Daisy's Mr. Green: 657 grams, wavy
Daisy's Ms. Magenta: 718 grams, curly
Daisy's Ms. Lavender: 446 grams, thinking curly!

4/17 - 2nd Pupdate:

Layla and Daisy's sweethearts have done a lot of growing this week (check out those weight increases compared to the first pupdate... wow)! These special little ones are beginning to open their eyes to this big new world. Their eyes may not look quite right this week, and that is okay. The opening process can take several days. Layla's litter is a couple days older than Daisy's, so they are a little further along. Every pup is a chunky monkey little milk drunk and thriving  :)

***
We recommend that you not compare weights between the two litters until they are older (4-5 weeks of age). There is little correlation between weights at this age and adult size.
Layla's Mr. Red: 450 grams, looking wavy
Layla's Mr. Grey: 568 grams, looking wavy

4/17 - Sad Pupdate

I am sorry to share that little Ms. Pink passed away early this morning. It caught me off guard, at this point I truly felt that she was going to survive. She had big gains yesterday and the day before, and seemed comfortable and content. As sad as it is to lose a pup, I feel a sense of peace knowing that I did everything possible to give her the best chance I could. Today I choose to sigh a breath of relief that she is no longer struggling, and focus all of my attention to celebrate and appreciate the 15 beautiful puppies here that are thriving. I hope that you all can do the same  <3
❤

I discussed having a necropsy performed with my vet. He recommended no necropsy, as they are often inconclusive in such young animals. It is common to have a "runt" in a large litter that fails to thrive, and this doesn't put her siblings at risk. So, we will be burying Ms. Pink today next to one of our flower beds with pink peonies. Thank you all for the supportive emails (and even a Pizza deliveries!!!) over the last few days. I have the most wonderful puppy families! I apologize that I have not responded to all emails, but please know they were received and every one was appreciated.

4/11 - Ms. Pink

Hello all! I started supplementing Ms. Pink from Daisy's litter with formula on a schedule last night. She lost weight from Friday afternoon to Friday evening, which means that she was not nursing effectively. This is not uncommon in "runts." As their siblings grow quickly, little ones struggle to compete when nursing. If a pup this small misses just 1 meal, it will quickly lose energy. This puts the pup at risk for low sugar or chilling, both of which are very dangerous to a newborn.  Ms. Pink will stay with her mom and continue nursing- but by supplementing, I know that she is getting the extra boost she needs to keep her healthy and growing.

When I supplement her with formula, I am using a method called tube feeding. When tube feeding, she will swallow a teeny catheter, and then I can slowly drip a few cc's of warm milk directly into her tummy. It may look frightening on camera, but the pup is perfectly comfortable during the process. Tube feeding is a much safer and faster alternative to bottle feeding at this age, as there is a high risk of her 'aspirating,' or accidentally inhaling the milk, from a bottle.

4/10 - 1st Pupdate!

Well it has been a whirlwind of a week, but everyone has finally settled down and doing very well!

Layla is a fabulous first time mommy and has adjusted to the role wonderfully. Daisy (who delivered  most recently) is an extremely attentive mommy. Both mommies are a little embarrassed by their short haircuts, but appreciative not to have to worry about grooming while raising babies. It also keeps them cool (all those babies piled next to you gets HOT) and helps me to keep an eye on their body condition in the coming weeks, as dogs lose weight while nursing and these two gals are naturally very lean to start with.

Official Litter Announcement:

I really appreciate your patience over the last week. Daisy sure kept us waiting, and yesterday was a LOOOONG day. Below is a photo of all 16 babies with their newly assigned corresponding color ID.  Make sure to check out the Litter Gallery and Puppy Cam links above if you haven't already! The Puppy Cam will run from 8AM-10PM each day as these precious babies grow.

We have a long reservation list for these cuties, but now that they are here and you can see the color and gender options, please re-evaluate your spot on the reservation list and make sure you are happy with taking home ANY color or gender combination of puppies that may be available for you to choose from by the time your position on the reservation list is reached. For example, there are 6 female puppies between these 2 litters. If you are on the 7th reservation spot, and you want a female puppy ONLY, then you need to contact me in the next 3 days so I can remove you from the list. I MUST hear from you via email by Saturday evening 4/11!!! If you need a reminder about how the selection process works, revisit our application/purchase process page.

You may want to know the color/gender that families ahead of you requested on their application. Shoot me an email and I am happy to share this with you, but please be aware, people OFTEN change their minds- very often. I have had entire litter lists get the opposite gender of what they requested on their application. You never know who you may fall in love with! So be prepared for the "worse case scenario."

We often get the question... "I may not get the puppy I want... but can I just wait until selection day and, if the color/gender puppy I want isn't available, I am fine losing my deposit." Please, please, please do not do this. My priority is to get each of these sweet babies to their new home on time. I ask that you be prepared to commit to whatever gender/color may remain when your spot on the list is reached. Bailing off the list at the last minute is unfair to the "unwanted" puppy, who may not have a home to join when his/her siblings leave.

If you haven't already, check out the New Owner's Page (under the "Puppies" tab) for information about bringing your new pup home. I am sure you will have questions about what size items to purchase- this is tough to answer until we know which puppy you are taking home, as there will be some size variation from puppy to puppy. I am happy to make recommendations once I know who you are taking home! I expect most will weigh between 3-5lbs when they join your family. As a general rule of thumb, a 36" crate will be roomy for any pup on this list, just make sure you get one with a dividing panel so you can adjust the crate size as they grow. The kind I use is on our recommendations page.

Today is "catch up day" for me here- yesterday was a wild one, and there are many chores to do! Please email me any questions you have (do not hesitate to send me a long list)! I am also happy to set up phone appointments for tomorrow if needed. I am heading to the puppy room now to add weights from Daisy's litter chart, and hope to post a quick video this afternoon :) Again- you have all been AWESOME and so patient! I am very excited to work with you in the coming weeks.

Happy Birthday To Daisy's Litter! 04/07/20 (pupdate posted 4/8)

Daisy delivered 9  beautiful pups, starting late in the evening of 04/07 and finishing up mid-morning on 04/08! One of her sweet little girls is a bit on the skinny side and needed supportive care in the first 6 hours to help her nurse and keep up her body temperature, however, she is now eating, warm, wiggling all on her own, and we expect that she will do just fine . Daisy was very peaceful throughout her delivery and is a gentle, loving mother. We did have a minor complication this afternoon (she didn't deliver 1 of her 9 placentas initially) however, after some rest and calcium supplements she passed the placenta. It has been a very long but happy night/day for everyone at Red Spring Farm! We are getting photos/videos out ASAP.  It may be tomorrow before we send you the official "puppies are here" email and color ID's are assigned. Introducing...

Daisy's Mr. Burgundy:  Solid Apricot. 201 grams
Daisy's Mr. Orange: Solid Apricot. 210 grams.
Daisy's Mr. Black: Apricot w/ white markings. 226 grams

Daisy's Mr. Gold: Apricot/Gold w/ white markings. 260 grams
Daisy's Mr. Green: Apricot Parti w/ unique markings (pictured in gallery, this guy has a small black marking on his rump, I will verify with my vet, but I suspect this is a harmless "somatic mutation"- very cool, like a birth mark)! 247 grams.
Daisy's Ms. Magenta:  Apricot Parti . 231 grams.
Daisy's Ms. Lavender: Apricot Parti. 174 grams.
Daisy's Ms. Pink: Apricot/Gold w/ white markings, small but doing great! 118 grams.
